The Parliamentary Women Caucus has vowed to continue fighting for women’s rights in the country in a bid to promote gender equality and women empowerment.
The president of the committee Jessie Kabwira has made the call as the Malawi celebrates the mother’s day on 15 October, 2017.
Kabwira expressed concern that women put in hard work and effort in many things but are hardly recognized.
Kabwira said this is not a step in the right direction in as far as the country’s development is concerned.
“Women are always insulted and discriminated although they do their domestic duties and professional duties under difficult circumstances which affects their lives in many ways.
“Mother’s day celebration is crippled by many problems and it’s a nightmare,” added Kabwira.
She said her committee is always there to fight hard and to advocate for women’s rights.
“Our committee will tirelessly speak on behalf of the women to make sure that they are treated the same way as men, live a gender based violence free life and also to make sure that they participate fully in all development activities,” she said.
