Blantyre City Council (BCC) has bemoaned the lack of interest from the public to embrace its initiative to renovate recreation parks in the city.
BCC Spokesperson Anthony Kasunda said there has been no positive feedback on its calls for partnership to implement the initiative.
“We publicized the decision to renovate the recreation parks because we wanted public- private partnership in implementing the program,” he explained.
“The public also own the places but there is no such agreement till to date.”
Kasunda said the continued silence by the potential partners is a drawback in as far as the city’s developing plans are concerned.
Njamba Freedom Park is the most renowned recreation parks in Blantyre.
The park is well-known for hosting big rallies by the country’s freedom fighters in the run up to the 1993 referendum for multiparty democracy.
