The Nkukula Second Grade Magistrate court in Lumbadzi, Lilongwe has adjourned the case involving three women who are being accused of stripping and severely assaulting a fellow 30 year old woman.
The accused women allegedly assaulted the victim on allegations that she was having an affair with one of the women’s husband.
Speaking to YFM Public Relations Officer for Kanengo Police Station, Laban Makalani said the court has decided to transfer the case to Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate court for sentencing due to the gravity of the maximum penalty attached to the case.
“The Second Grade Magistrate Court does not have a mandate to maximum sentencing, it is only limited to sentence a convict between a period of 10 years and below,” he explained.
Meanwhile the three women are currently on remand at Maula prison waiting to be sentenced.
