An expatriate Medical report has shown that the self-styled leader of People’s Land Organisation (PLO) Vincent Wandale, is mentally challenged.
The report was tendered to the closed chambers of Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
Wandale, a self-acclaimed President of United States of Thyolo and Mulanje, is currently answering charges of publicising false statements likely to cause fear and alarm to the public.
Malawi Police Head of Prosecutions, Happy Mkandawire said the court will deliver its reaction to the report on Thursday.
Mkandawire said the state has asked the court to deliver the ruling in an open court due to people’s interest in the case.
“It was not only Mr Wandale who was interviewed even his relations were interviewed. The decision has been made after looking into various factors,” said Mkandawire while adding that Wandale’s assessment took five days.
Mkandawire said Wandale’s relations have agreed to the findings of the report but did not disclose of when the problem started.
He further said the state has requested that he should go for mental tests at Zomba Mental Hospital.
Recently, the Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court ruled that Wandale, should be examined to determine if he is fit to stand trial.
