The Ministry of Health has said Malawi has registered progress in combating diabetes.
Public Relations Officer for the Ministry, Joshua Malango revealed this to YFM online as Malawi prepares to hold the World Diabetes Day commemoration on November 27.
Malango said the Ministry has engaged an extra gear in order to reduce diabetes prevalence in the country.
“There is an improvement in cases of diabetes after the country launched Diabetes Foundation Project to enhance community mobilization and raise awareness on the disease,” he said.
Malango said this year’s commemoration will be held in Machinga district.
He said the ceremony will be done under the theme of “women and diabetes-our right to a health future”.
Malango said: “This year’s theme has been set considering in mind that for the past year’s there were no themes talking about women.”
World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes world and is held on November 14 each year.
It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world.
