National Organization for Nurses and Midwives (NONM) has expressed a concern over the unending challenges many young expectant girls face during delivery which in extreme cases leads to loss of lives.
The Executive Director for NONM, Benson Phiri said many young girls do not comply with the use of contraceptives due to negligence.
Phiri highlighted that this development leads to pregnancies at a tender age hence the challenges.
“Many young girls neglect to use contraceptives because many of them believe they are associated with side effects, whilst others it’s due to ignorance. This leads to challenges including birth complications, loss of blood, rapturing of the womb and loss of lives,” he explained.
Phiri however told YFM online that there is need for sensitization and awareness campaigns at all levels.
“Government together with other stakeholders should work tirelessly in sensitizing people across the country on the use of contraceptive method if things are to move in the right direction,” he added.
Malawi updated its commitments to achieve the FP2020 goals of increasing contraceptive uptake by 60 percent by the year 2020.
