The Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare says it is determined to engage children in matters that affect them in a bid to improve their welfare.
The Director of Child Affairs in the Ministry McKnight Kalanda made the remarks as Malawi on Monday November 20 joined the rest of the world in commemorating the Universal Children’s Day.
Kalanda outlined the child parliament sessions as one way of involving children in various issues that matter to them.
“The child Parliament sessions that we organized in Mwanza and Neno gave them a platform to voice out all their concerns which in turn makes it easy for us to come up with means to solve the problem,” he said.
Kalanda asked the Ministry of Education and all stakeholders across the country to have the life of a child at their hearts and provide them with various platforms to voice out their concerns.
He said this enhances their participation and engagement in some decision making processes on matters that distress them.
