Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has singled out lack of commitment and inadequate funds as major setbacks to the promotion of the welfare of children in the country.
The Director of Child Rights at Malawi Human Rights Commission, Norris Mangulama Chirwa disclosed this to YFM ONLINE.
Chirwa said despite the country adopting the children’s rights charter in 1991 little is being done to improve their welfare.
He therefore urged the general public to be patriotic by showing their commitment and properly managing the limited available funds towards improving children’s welfare.
“Let’s give children a platform for them to voice their concern according to section 12 of the convention on the rights of the child.”
“Us as duty bearers are supposed to listen to what the children are saying and also take action on what children are saying,” he said.
