The Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has appealed to government to live up to its promise of taking the electoral reforms bills to Parliament.
This reminder has come as Members of Parliament are still meeting to discuss pertinent issues concerning the country.
In an interview with YFM online, MESN’s Chairperson, Steve Duwa feared that time was running out for Parliament to discuss the bill as the country draws closer to the 2019 tripartite elections.
“As Members of Parliament were meeting in June this year, the minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Samuel Tembenu hinted that the bill will be discussed as members meet in November and right now the month is already finishing but no progress has been made,” observed Duwa.
“This bill is very crucial to the country’s electoral processes and and we want government to deliver on its promise and have the bill deliberated on in Parliament,” he added.
The electoral reforms bills is a long standing issue dating back to 2004.
