The Department of Immigration says it has engaged an extra gear to control the illegal influx of foreigners into Malawi during the festive season.
Immigration Department National Spokesperson, Joseph Chauwa said many Malawians living outside the country and other foreign nationals come to Malawi for Christmas and New Year’s festivities.
Chauwa however said this normally creates high traffic in the borders.
He said for this reason the department has tightened security in all the boarders and border districts to ensure that the situation is always in control.
“Our daily activities are to provide security at the borders but we have put in place more measures to secure the borders during this time.”
Chauwa added: “We are adding more staffs to operate in our borders just to add on daily normal activities we have.”
He assured Malawians that the department will follow all security measures to ensure the safety of all Malawians during the festive period.
