The Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has set aside December 13 as a day for nationwide peaceful protests to demand tabling of electoral reforms bills during the ongoing parliamentary sitting.
PAC’s Chairperson, Reverend Dr. Felix Chingota said the peaceful protests will be held in all the four regions of Malawi.
Reverend Chingota said the move follows non-fruitful meetings and consultations with all concerned parties on the issue.
“We noted that on the order paper which actually lists down the agenda to be discussed in Parliament the reforms bills are not included and we actually petitioned the President Peter Mutharika and the Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya on the issue.
“This is actually a follow up on the activity which we had last week on Thursday,” he said.
Reverend Chingota assured Malawians that they have been in place measures to ensure peaceful protests.
Meanwhile, Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Nicholas Dausi declined to comment more on the development.
“Let’s wait and see,” said Dausi.
