Health expert Maziko Matemba has asked the Malawi Government to allocate more locally generated resources towards prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The plea comes as Malawi joins the rest of the world in commemorating World AIDS Day on December 1 under the theme: “The Right to Health: Access to Quality HIV Prevention and Treatment Services”.
Matemba said in as much as the country receives assistance from international organizations, Malawi should also inject more funds in the fight against the pandemic.
“Am happy that Malawi was able to secure another grant from Global Fund but as a country we also need to invest a lot,” Matemba said.
He further said the country should also focus much in awareness in communities so that no one is left behind in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
World AIDS Day, designated on December 1 every year since 1988, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic and mourning those who have died of the disease.
