Youth Net and Counseling-YONECO has appealed to government to be proactive in handling crucial issues if the country is to move forward.
YONECO’s Executive Director MacBain Mkandawire made the appeal on the sidelines of a breakfast meeting in Liwonde on Wednesday.
The meeting was organized with an aim of briefing stakeholders on the progress of Green and Inclusive Energy project.
Mkandawire said currently the country is facing a lot of challenges citing the persistent blackouts.
‘’If government had put in place strategies to regulate the environment or rather promote the use of solar energy, this would not have happened,’’ said Mkandawire.
He further said government needs to design interventions that focuses on issues and not petty matters.
‘’Government should be committed and put policy into practice to promote Renewable Energy technologies as one way of dealing with energy poverty the country is experiencing,’’ said Mkandawire.
YONECO is implementing a four year project dubbed Stimulating Citizen and Public Engagement in Green and Inclusive Energy (GIE) for Sustainable Development-GO GREEN.
The project is being implemented in Zomba and Machinga districts with financial support from HIVOs.
