Blantyre Press Club-BPC says it will plant about 30 thousand trees during the current National Tree Planting Season in order to conserve the environment.
The Club’s President, Blessings Kanache said they will start planting the trees on December 23 this year.
“The club will plant trees in Liwonde along Shire River as one way of ensuring that water levels do not go down,” Kanache told YFM online in an interview.
Kanache said the club would like to protect the catchment area along the river.
“Shire River is very vital in bringing water to different areas and also as a country we depend on this river to generate electricity,” Kanache said.
He further said they will engage chiefs in the process to make sure that the trees are well taken care of.
“We also want to make sure that there is sustainability of the initiative.”
