The Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mulanje residents for the project of tapping water from Mulanje Mountain.
The project will enable BWB to tap water from Likhubula River to Blantyre City and surrounding districts.
Public Relations Officer for Blantyre Water Board, Pricilla Mateyu told YFM online that will help the board to serve its customers efficiently.
“The memorandum of understanding means a clear indication to cement the relationship between communities in Mulanje district and Blantyre Water Board to work hand in hand once the whole project is finalized,” said Mateyu.
Mateyu said the project which started last year has been left with only three phases.
“These phases are the pipeline, the extraction point which is in Mulanje at Likhubula River and the reservoir tank at Mpingwi Mountain,” said Mateyu.
She disclosed that currently the other reservoir tank which is in Nguludi started last year around October and is currently underway.
Mateyu further said the K18 billion project is expected to end in April next year.
