They might be boost of great exploits in male involvement on maternal issues in the areas of Traditional Authorities Kachere and Kachindamoto in Dedza district but not all is rosy at Mganja Health Center in the area, as it has neither a guardian shelter nor stand-alone maternity wing.
According to Cosmas Kumfunda, a nurse and midwife at Mganja Health Center, the facility is not up to standards.
“It’s a small hospital that does things beyond its capacity,” he said.
He alludes to the fact that women in post natal ward stay together with guardians which takes away privacy on the part of a delivered woman.
Kumfunda pleads with Organizations and other well-wishers to help build a separate maternity wing that will be away from Out Patient Department (OPD) to ensure good service delivery as well as privacy.
Action
Knowing how critical the situation is, community members close to Mganja Health facility with leadership from Radio Listening Clubs have molded more than 25 thousand bricks for the construction of guardian shelter.
