Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has planted trees in Machinga in a bid to enhance its power generation activities along the Shire River.
EGENCO Publicist Moses Gwaza told YFM online that, “currently they are not able to generate enough power due to low water levels in Shire River”.
Gwaza said the company is optimistic that planting trees along the Shire River catchment areas will help solve the problem.
He said they are planning to plant almost eight thousand trees during this season.
“In making sure that trees are well taken care of once planted EGENCO will work hand in hand with traditional authorities and also forestry department,” Gwaza said.
