Police in Balaka district have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of the Mammogram machine that is used for early breast cancer detection.
Spokesperson for the Eastern Region Police, Inspector Joseph Sauka confirmed this YFM online.
Sauka said the 31 year-old Geoffery Chinyama and 22 year old Laiton Juma both from Saliwa village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Khalembo in Balaka were arrested on Sunday.
He said they have also recovered an I-phone and other properties that were also stolen.
Sauka said the suspects will appear before the court soon.
“They will be appearing before the court of law as soon we are done with the filing of statements on theft charges, which is contrary to the law,” Sauka added.
The machine was stolen on February 5, 2018 as the country’s breast surgeon Dr. Briony’s Acroyd-Parken and a guest doctor from South Africa were on their way to commence breast cancer screening in Mangochi.
Breast cancer is one of the commonest cancers which claims more lives of women in Malawi.
