Zomba City Council with funding from Zomba Action Project- Coleraine Borough has distributed start up tools to homeless people that graduated from their vocational training program, Friday.
The tools, which included a sowing machine and full-kit toolboxes, were given to those that were trained in motorcycle mechanics, sewing and tinsmith skills.
In an interview with YFM online , Chief Executive Officer for Zomba City Council, Dyson Jangiya said the tools will help the beneficiaries to become economically independent.
“This development is just one step towards alleviating poverty in our city of Zomba,”Jangiya said during the distribution ceremony.
He urged the beneficiaries to take care of the tools for their own good.
Jangiya asked the corporate world and well-wishers to support them in the bid to rehabilitate homeless people through such training.
One of the beneficiaries, Sydney Pondani, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to learn motorcycle mechanics.
“With these tools I can now support myself financially,” he explained.
Zomba City Council implemented the project -which is called ‘Community Reintegration and Empowerment of the Homeless People in Zomba City’- between 2013 and 2016, but they did not have funding for the tools back then.
