The Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) has expressed concern over the continued deforestation on Zomba Mountain which has affected the catchment area around Mulunguzi Dam.
Board chair for SRBW Luther Mambala told YFM online that it is worrisome that some of its customers are in the forefront in the act.
Mambala warned that the trend may cause siltation of the dam in future.
He urged people to think of the implications that will happen in future rather than making money today.
“The same people who are cutting down trees around the dam will be the ones that will be the first to complain that SRBW has stopped offering good services to its customers,” he said.
Mambala has therefore urged the community members to be in the forefront to help the board in tree plantation to replace the damaged trees.
