A charitable non-Governmental organization, Nyumba ya Tsogolo, has embarked on a campaign to remove street children and other vulnerable groups out of the streets of Machinga district.
Speaking to YFM online, the Executive Director for the organization, Willard Amadu said their research found that Liwonde Municipality had a population of 48 street kids.
Amadu said they are using different mechanisms like engaging the communities and volunteers to make sure that the campaign is successful.
“After the kids have been taken away from the streets the organization sends the kids back to their relatives and an after care or follow up is made to see if there are any possible dangers to the kids,” he said.
Amadu said family divorce is one of the factors which is fueling the problem in the district.
