The Malawi Union of the Blind (MUB) says it will soon start conducting voter and civic education for the forthcoming tripartite elections.
Executive Director for MUB Ezekiel Kumwenda told YFM online that they are currently soliciting funds for the exercise.
Kumwenda said the exercise will be done to reduce voter apathy among visually impaired persons in the country as they are usually left out during the voting period.
“We are now happy that we have been given the chance for the first time to help in civic educating the visually impaired people so that they can as well vote on their own without facing challenges,” he said.
In the past people with visual impairment were being helped during voting a thing which MUB describes it as a violation of their right to privacy.
Kumwenda has therefore assured all voters who are visually impaired that they will be well trained how to use the braille ballot papers.
