Two people have died in Ntchisi in two separate incidents after being washed away by water while attempting to cross rivers which were full due to a heavy down pour experienced in most parts of the district.
Kafota Mwanza, aged 35 from Kawenda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo met his fate on Sunday on his way back from Chorwe Village where he had gone to drink bear.
Upon reaching Kaidyaidya River, the deceased failed to cross and was swept away by the water, according to Ntchisi Police spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha.
“He was swept away by the water and his body was later discovered the following day along the river after search,” M’bumpha said.
In a related development, Alex Soko aged 15 from Gomezgani Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malenga in the district was also washed away by water as he was trying to cross Chobiza River on Monday.
“Soko, who was epileptic, went to play football at Buzi Primary School where he was pupil.
“On his way back home, he wanted to cross the river on a makeshift bridge and was swept away. His body was found the following day along the river bank,” M’bumpha explained.
Police is warning the public not to cross rivers that are full to avoid such accidents.
