A political analyst has bemoaned the tendency of misusing government vehicles in government departments after working hours and during weekends.
Rafik Hajat said the problem has been there since Malawi attained its independence.
“During the one-party era the party officials had the chance to use the vehicles anyhow since it was a ruling party in power,” Hajat told YFM online.
He said the situation has worsened since mismanagement of the vehicles is done starting from the top officials in government .
“There is need for better procedures in order to curb this malpractice since the situation is beyond control in various government departments in the country.”
Hajat expressed concern that the vehicles are being used for personal gains and as such he proposed the use of electronic tracking in order to end the malpractice.
