Malawi National Football team head coach Ronny Van Geneugden (RVG) has named 10 foreign-based players to join camp on Monday next week.
The players will join the local-based squad which is currently on residential training in Blantyre in preparation for an international friendly match against Uganda in Kampala on 27 March.
The foreign players are four South Africa-based Limbikani Nzava, Robin Ngalande, Robert Ng’ambi and Gerald Phiri Junior. The other Mozambique-based players are Chawanangwa Kaonga, Charles Swini, Frank Banda and Schumacher Kuwali.
Dalitso Sailesi who plies his trade in Zambia and Portugal-based Richard Mbulu have also made it in the squad.
Renowned South Africa-based striker Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango is conspicuously missing from the list.
Flames Team Manager James Sangala could not explain the reasons behind Mhango’s omission from the squad.
“It is true that RVG has named 10 foreign-based players to join camp at least by Monday next week. We could have been excited if they had come earlier but due to their club commitments this weekend, they are unable to make it. However, FAM has already written their clubs for their release,” Sangala said in an interview with YFM Online.
He said the Flames will depart on 24 March for Kampala and added that their coming on time will give the team ample time to gel together for the game.
