The Malawi National Women’s Senior Netball team on Wednesday triumphed against Barbados by 61 to 40 in a strength testing match ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast 21 st Commonwealth Games in Australia.
In the match, the Queens were held by 11th ranked Barbados in the first quarter by 11 all draw, but managed to lead in the last three quarters by 26 to 23, 43 to 31 and 61 to 40 baskets respectively.
The Queens went in the field with the usual faces in their starting line-up, which was comprised of Mwai Kumwenda, Jane Chimaliro, Bridget Kumwenda, Thandie Galleta, Joana Kachilimika, Caroline Mtukule and Towera Vinkhumbo.
The technical panel made some changes where Takondwa Lwazi went in for Bridget in the second quarter, Loreen Ngwira replaced Caroline in the third quarter while Mwai was substituted for Joyce Mvula in the fourth quarter.
The Queens are in Australia to take part in the 2018 Gold coast 21st Commonwealth Games to kick off on Friday in Queensland.
The Queens are categorized in Pool B of the Commonwealth Games together with England, Uganda, New Zealand, Wales and Scotland.
On their route to Australia the Queens also participated in the four-nation Taini Jamison Trophy in New Zealand last week, as part of their preparations.
The Queens will open their commonwealth competition against England on April 6, before taking on Uganda on April 7, New Zealand on April 8, Wales on April 11 and Scotland on April 12.
