A 17- year-old boy has died after his father shot him accidentally with a pump gun in Mulanje district.

Public Relations Officer for Mulanje Police, Grasham Ngwira identified the deceased as Harnet Matchado from Mpando village, senior chief Mabuka in Mulanje district.

Ngwira said the incident happened on April 5, 2018 when the father to the deceased, Victor Matchado, a security guard at Thuchila Estate in Mulanje, was trying to stop a disagreement between his two children.

“On the said date, Matchado was knocking off from office and as he approached his house with a gun, one of his children requested to carry the gun as part of welcoming him.”

“After getting it, his sister also demanded that she carries it a thing that brought a disagreement between the two.

“Upon seeing this, the father started intervening in the situation with the aim of taking the gun from the two.”

“Unfortunately, in the process, he accidentally pulled the trigger shooting the male child on the shoulder and he died on the spot,” he said.

Ngwira said the father is in police custody for further investigations on the matter.
