Mentor teachers in Zomba District have commended Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) for enhancing girl child education in the district.
Speaking to YFM, one of the mentor teachers at Mulunguzi Secondary School, Rose Saulos said since 2014, the time the school started receiving support from CAMFED, the school has managed to send many girls to public Universities.
“We have sent 13 girls and 14 boys to various public universities rather than in the past when we were sending may be just 10% of the girls to higher learning institutions,” Saulos said.
Saulos also said that CAMFED has helped to reduce girl’s school dropout rate due to lack of fees and teenage pregnancies.
She disclosed that since the start of the support to the girls the school has not recorded any pregnancies.
