Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has expressed satisfaction with the progress made following the installation of the pre-paid water meters in the city.
Speaking to YFM online, Public Relations Officer for the Board, Pricilla Mateyu said they have managed to reach out to 5,000 people during the first phase of the project which started in October last year.
“The second phase of the project is scheduled to commerce in May this year.
“The areas to benefit from the second phase of the project are Mandala, Mount pleasant, Nyambadwe, Sunny side and Namiwawa in the city of Blantyre.
“Blantyre Water Board also provides water in districts like Thyolo and parts of Chiradzulu and it’s the mandate of the Board to as well provide the pre-paid meters within the next five years in the said districts,” Mateyu said.
She however said the operations of the new system have been affected by the ongoing electricity challenges.
“The operations of the new system depends on network and we have resorted into using generators during power black outs to ensure smooth running of the system,” she added.
