Former Malawi president Joyce Banda will return home on Saturday after staying abroad for more than three years.
This will be the first time for the ex-president to visit Malawi since her loss in the 2014 presidential elections to President Peter Mutharika.
In a statement released on Monday, Spokesperson in the office of the former president, Andekuche Chanthunya said the ex-president will arrive through Chileka International Airport.
“Dr Joyce Banda will arrive around 12 o’clock, midday. Everyone is welcome to welcome the former Head of State,” he said.
He said the People’s Party (PP) president had successful engagements abroad.
The former president will return to Malawi after her successful engagements in the United States of America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa among others,” Chanthunya said.
Banda returns amid a warrant of arrest which was issued by the police last year in connection to cashgate cases allegedly committed during her reign.
