The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has advised people in the country to be prepared for winter season which has already began this month.
Speaking to YFM, Director for the Department Jolamu Nkhokwe said this year’s winter season will be very chilly.
“It’s very important for people in the country to be ready and keep warm at all times to avoid diseases that are caused by cold weather.
“We are experiencing the cold weather because the sun which gives us the heat is over the northern hemisphere and we get very little heat over the southern hemisphere including Malawi hence the cold weather,” Nkhokwe added.
He also said people living in the northern region should also expect rains.
“The northern region will be experiencing rains because the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which is still lying over Tanzania hence the rains,” he said.
Winter season is experienced in the country from May to August every year.
