District Commissioner for Machinga, Bester Mandere has expressed dismay over the continued boycott of market fee by vendors at Liwonde Market in the district.
Speaking to YFM online, Mandere said: “The boycott of the market fee by the vendors has negatively affected revenue collection for the council,”
“The budget for the council depends on the same revenue to constitute a proper budget for payments of the whole year,” he said.
Mandere did not disclose as to how much they have lost since the inception of the boycott by the vendors.
The four months boycott has been there in demand of proper services for the market like electricity, proper dumping site among others.
“Currently we are working on negotiating with the vendors to map the way forward on the matter,” Mandere said.
