Malawi Police Service (MPS) has warned Malawians against keeping burning candles and charcoal burners on whilst sleeping to avoid rising fatal fire accidents in the country.
National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera told YFM that the tendency is fueling fire accidents in the country.
“We are recording fire accidents in our neighborhood but accidents are avoidable-as police we are appealing to all Malawians to make sure that they should not be the victims to save our lives and property,” Kadadzera said.
He further added that Malawians have to be careful in the winter season to avoid loss of lives and properties due to fire and suffocation.
“Let’s make sure that in the coming month, (June) which is cold we are very mindful of the practice of keeping charcoal burners in the house whilst not fully burnt to prevent deaths that come due to suffocation,” Kadadzera said.
