Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has expressed optimism with how people in the country are using the electronic tax payment system
MRA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Steven Kapoloma, the system is receiving a positive response by Malawians and currently almost 60% of tax is being collected through the process.
He said electronic tax payment system is much better compared to the initial tax payment system.
“At first you could find people queuing in MRA offices to pay their tax but now they can do that in the comfort of their homes and offices by just visiting the internet,” he said.
However, Kapoloma acknowledged that initially the process had challenges of network coverage where customers were having difficulties to log in and pay their taxes which have now been resolved.
“The issue of network is a problem in the whole country but as I am saying now not many people are complaining about network problem,” he said
E- tax payment system is an online way of paying tax through internet and was launched in June 2017 as one way of simplifying the old tax payment system.
