Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) has expressed dismay over the abduction and killings of people with albinism in the country.
This has been said as Malawi joins the rest of the world in commemorating the international albinism awareness day (IAAD) on June 13 this year.
This year the day is being commemorated under the theme “shinning our light to the world”.
Speaking to YFM, APAM National Coordinator , Bonface Massa said: “The day is very vital to the country since it helps to reflect on the bad acts which are being faced by people with albinism.”
According to Massa the day will be commemorated on 23 June this year at Mwenilondo Primary School ground in Karonga District.
“This is because Karonga is one of the districts that has registered a significant number of cases of attacks.”
“The government has promised to put in place a national action plan to make sure that people with albinism in the country are safe,” Massa said.
