Two weeks have passed since the draw for the 2018 under 17 COSAFA championship was conducted but the young Flames which is expected to take part in the competition is yet to start its preparations for the tournament.
The tournament is scheduled for Mauritius in the month of July.
Young Flames’ Team Manager, Enosi Chatama, admitted that the delay is worrisome and that they are just waiting from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to provide them with necessary resources.
Chatama said: “We haven’t yet started preparations but the head coach (Deklerk Msakakuona) has already proposed the dates and we are just waiting from FAM to make proper arrangements for the camping.”
“We are late it would have been better if we started earlier because almost all the boys who were playing for the team have graduated to under 20 side and it requires more time to prepare the new blood psychologically, mentally, tactically and technically.”
However Chatama expressed hope that FAM will soon come to their rescue.
The draw for the competition took place at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa, on the 31st of May.
But despite the days for the tournament getting closer, players for the team are yet to be identified.
The draw saw 12 teams split into three groups of four each, with Malawi’s group C comprising of Angola, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
