Malawi Heath Equity Network (MHEN) has expressed the need for the government and other stakeholders to embark on awareness campaign on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in a bid to reduce deaths.
MHEN Executive Director George Jobe said apart from cervical cancer, there is information gap to the rural masses in the country on other non-communicable diseases.
“We need to do more looking at the rate at which we are losing Malawians we have a lot of people who are suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure,” Jobe said.
He therefore appealed to the concerned parties to give more priority to diabetes and high blood pressure among others.
Jobe further said though there are efforts underway like the Lilongwe Cancer Centre, people need to be informed on how these diseases can be prevented like thorough health check-up, diet and physical exercise.
