50-50 Campaign Management Agency has hailed Dr Joyce Banda’s stand to run for the presidency saying it will boost women’s participation.

The former Malawi president and People’s Party (PP) leader, announced the news during a political rally in Blantyre.

Spokesperson for the agency, Wisdom Chingwede said there is need for political parties to put structures that are favorable to women.

“As an organization promoting 50:50 campaign we commend her decision because its exactly what we are encouraging and we are asking other parties to put in place measures that will accommodate more women in decisions making positions,” he said.

Chingwede further encouraged more women to come out and contest for different positions in the forthcoming elections.

Dr Joyce Banda is the first female president who ruled the country from 2012-2014.

Malawi officially launched the 50-50 campaign on 3rd May 2018.
