Malawi Health Equity Network-MHEN has described the resurfacing of cholera outbreak in some parts of the country as shocking and disturbing.
The remarks have been made by MHEN Executive Director George Jobe following reports that one person has died while eight others were admitted in Salima district due to the outbreak on Friday.
Jobe said his organization has established that this is due to lack of portable clean water which continues to rock the district.
“We have established that this is a new cholera but the common thing between the places we had cholera previously and now is lack of clean water as in the current case people are using river water for household chores,” Jobe told YFM.
He said the country should be more serious to provide portable clean water to its citizens in order to deal with the outbreak.
Jobe has therefore called on the government and stakeholders to deal with the challenge as a matter of agency.
