Zomba Sports Committee has introduced cricket competition in primary schools in the district with funding from Cricket Association of Malawi.
The 7 schools which are participating in the cricket competition are Prison primary school, Mponda, Chikowi, Satemwa, Police, Potewa and Thundu.
General secretary for Zomba sports committee Mikel Likaka expressed joy on how people in the district are patronising the sport.
Likaka told YFM that the sport has shown interesting things in the district.
‘’Cricket has revealed some skills that are there in players and the passion to play the game. Players are able to make runs, balling, and battering,’’ he said.
Currently, the competition is in its third week and in two weeks’ time they will be hosting finals.
Likaka has however appealed to companies and individuals from zomba to come and develop the game.
‘’Let me ask for well-wishers to come and support us by investing in the game of cricket so that we can together develop the sport,’’ Likaka said.
Likaka has urged all the fans to come in their large numbers to watch the games at Mponda primary school ground every Saturdays.
The same competition is also taking place in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
