National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) says it is geared to provide civic education to the masses on the importance of voter registration.
This has been said on Thursday in Zomba when NICE officials together with various stakeholders organized a meeting to map the way forward on voter registration which will soon start in the district.
Speaking to YFM, Civic Education Officer for Zomba district, Abertina Zidana said: “Eligible people should be encouraged to register and chiefs must play a vital role in mobilizing individuals for them to vote in the 2019 tripartite elections.”
“Zomba district is one of the districts which encounter violence during voting and the meeting is just one way of providing alternatives on how to curb the malpractice,” she said.
“We are going to work hand in hand with chiefs since they are custodians of culture and we encourage them to be neutral with elections issues,” Zidana said.
During the meeting, the district election clerk for Zomba district council, George Kaminga advised people in the district to exercise their right by voting in the coming elections.
