Limbe – Nkando – Chisitu (MOO4) road will be closed for motorists on August 8 to pave way for maintenance of the temporary Thuchila Bailey Bridge, the Roads Authority (RA) has announced.
RA Public Relations Officer, Portia Kajanga said the maintenance works involves replacing the worn out timbers that are posing a threat to road users.
“We want to give time to our contractor to replace some of the running boards that have gotten broken, some have rotten so that we put in new boards,” she said.
Kajanga however said they are currently working on the design of a permanent bridge as a long lasting solution to all the threats which is expected to commence towards the end of the year.
“We believe that sometime between December and January we should be done with the designs. We will invite tenders for contractors to compete to do the work and the rest will follow,” she added.
Meanwhile, road users and motorists have been advised to use the Limbe- Thyolo- Chisitu- Mulanje (M002) road.
The bridge was also temporarily closed in March this year for maintenance works.
