Castel Malawi, sole sponsor of 2018 Carlsberg Cup has expressed satisfaction with the way regional teams are conducting themselves on the field as the competition’s regional level is drawing to a close.
Currently the two regions of south and central have already reached their finale at regional level, while the northern region is yet to wind up.
Senior brands manager for alcoholic beverages, Twikale Chirwa said the company is impressed and will be happy to see a team from the regional level reaching the final stage at national level.
Chirwa said: “Let me thank the teams that registered on regional level for their courage and a spirit of sportsmanship they have displayed since the beginning of this season and we encourage them to fight so that one of them can repeat a scenario of two years ago when a regional level club, Karonga United, reached the national final stage.”
He also highlighted that scouting for the discovery of the tournament, a prize which the company awards to the youngest player who emerge the best competition performer, has already started.
Lower league teams from the country’s three regions have been battling it out for the top 32 slots to join 16 super league teams who were seeded.
The trophy is pegged at K40 million as this year the sponsor is celebrating 50 years of Carlsberg brand.
Nyasa Big Bullets are the current holders of the trophy after defeating their archrivals, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers 5-4 on post-match penalties at Bingu National stadium last year.
