People’s Party (PP) says it has opened up all positions for women contestants at the party’s forthcoming elective convention slated for August 30-31.
In an interview with YFM, the party’s Secretary General Ibrahim Matola said they have done this as one way of ensuring a higher representation of women in politics.
He said that so far some women have already shown interest to compete in different position at the convention.
Matola further said there are still some vacant positions which are yet to be filled.
“Indeed there is great will of women to participate in convention and those who are willing to take the position can do so,” Matola said.
Meanwhile Peoples Party Deputy Regional Secretary for the South, Leonard Mphiza has become the first person to express interest to challenge Dr Joyce Banda for the party’s presidency at the convention.
Peoples Party (PP) is the fifth party to hold its convention in the country.
