Quarter final matches for the 2018 Carlsberg Cup are scheduled to take place on September 22 and 23 with eight teams set to book their tickets to the semi-finals stage.
Out of all the eight teams who have reached the quarter final stage, Hangover Football club is the only team from the lower league side.
The team, which plays in the Southern Region Chitetezo Mbaula premier league, is currently on position three on the log table.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM), through its competitions manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said all is set for the matches.
Zakazaka said: “We are excited and looking forward to exciting matches as you know we have come from far without any serious challenges and we are confident to have a smooth quarter final encounters and the same will apply to both semi-final and final stage.”
Commenting on the officiation which usually pause challenges to the game of football in the country, Zakazaka promised professionalism among the whistle men handling the games.
“Referees Association of Malawi has already scrutinized the best referees and their capabilities to officiate these big matches so expect professional officiation and you can recall that we haven’t had problems with the matches played so far and we expect the same to be maintained,” said Zakazaka.
The tough competition started with 32 teams when regional level teams were seeded with the Super league clubs until the rest were eliminated before reaching the current last group of eight.
The semi-finals will be played during the weekend of 6th and 7th of October while the final match will take place on October 20.
Nyasa Big Bullets are the current Carlsberg cup holders who claimed it after beating their traditional rivals Mighty Be Forward Wanderers at Bingu National stadium.
