Government has called on all players in the 2019 general elections exercise to emphasize on the different types of registration exercises which are taking place in the country so as to avoid voter apathy in the fourth coming general elections as people seem to be confusing processes.
Minister of Culture and Civic Education, Grace Chiumia made the call in Zomba after touring some registration centers and also meeting some stakeholders who are currently conducting sensitization awareness.
Chiumia cited an example of the current sim-card registration exercise and the census as some of the notable exercise which people are confusing with the voter registration exercise thereby ending up not registering for the elections.
“I am asking all the electro players to do whatever they can in making sure that people especially the rural masses are being reached with the message which will mostly make them differentiate the other exercises with the registration exercise,” Chiumia said.
The registration exercise which is now in its sixth phase and in three districts pf Mangochi, Zomba and Nsanje has been characterized with low turn-out since it started on June 29, 2018.
The exercise will end on October 2, 2018.
