Blantyre City Council has said it does not have a designated place for car vending, a development which has led to an influx of imported used vehicle dealers along the city’s streets.
Imported used vehicles are normally sold in non-designated places such as Kristwick and near Kamuzu Upper Stadium along the Masauko Chipembere Highway, a development which may cause accidents.
Speaking to YFM, Blantyre City Council Public Relations Manager, Anthony Kasunda said that they tolerate vehicle traders to conduct their business in specific temporally places, but they are yet to identify a specific place for their trade.
“We know where they are illegally selling cars and we do go there to remove them,” said Kasunda.
“We do not have a specific market place for cars at the moment, but the council is looking for the best place.
“We don’t want to kill their business and at the same time we don’t want everybody to sell cars at his or her own place.”
Kasunda has since assured the traders that the council is doing everything possible to establish a designated market place for the vehicles.
