One of the country’s political analysts, Ernest Thindwa has emphasized on the need for political parties to support more women to win parliamentary seats.
In an interview with YFM, Thindwa said that women who contest as independent candidates stand very little chance of securing a parliamentary seat because they are overpowered by men.
“As more women stand as independent candidates, it reduces the possibility of having more women in parliament because most people go to parliament on a party critique,” said Thindwa.
He further advised political parties to ensure that female aspirants are given enough resources in order to effectively challenge for parliamentary seats.
However, Thindwa was quick to point out that women who really want to contest as independent candidates should not hesitate to do so.
