Banja la Mtsogolo- BLM says sports is very key in preventing early pregnancies in the country as it is a potential platform of raising awareness on family planning issues to the youth.
The remarks were made during the closure of a three-year Dreams Project that BLM was implementing in Zomba district.
Speaking to YFM, BLM’s Head of Programs Gift Radge said sports brings various individuals together including youths, which he said makes it easy to reach out to them with sexual and reproductive health rights and family planning messages.
“We started the BLM Dreams Project in April, 2016 after meeting with various stakeholders at district development level we realized that for us to reach the youth with our services we need to be organizing trophies both football and netball such that in so doing we are able to disseminate messages concerning sexual reproductive health, blood testing and family planning methods,”said Radge.
He said that apart from sports they also conduct open day sessions that incorporates creating sensitization campaign on their products.
