The National Registration Bureau (NRB) is registering all children under the age of 16 for the national birth certificate.
NRB Public Relations Officer Norman Fulatira said in an interview with YFM Online that the exercise will be carried out in all the 28 districts.
Fulatira said that the first phase of the exercise has started in Ntcheu where they are expecting to register 300,000 children.
“The NRB has embarked on the national birth registration of children under 16 and we have started with Ntcheu district. From Ntcheu when all is done we are going to register in Mwanza and proceed to all the districts in Malawi,” he said.
Fulatira added that the exercise is being conducted by village headmen.
“From today the NRB officials will start collecting the registration forms from the village headmen in order to know the exact number of children who have been registered,” Fulatira said.
